The
year was 1931. On December 31 that year the Dow Jones Industrial
AverageŽ closed at 59.93. H. W. "Pappy" Daily saw that his
railroad days might be shortly coming to an end and began a new career that
would span fifty years in the music business.
A
letter to the Bally Manufacturing Company started him
in the jukebox business. Later, record
manufacturing, as well as wholesale and retail
distribution and production, would propel Pappy into

Founded
in 1958, the Glad Music Company and H.W. "Pappy" Daily have
brought to the world a number of noteworthy talents. George Jones, Jimmie Dean,
Eddie Noack, Roger Miller, Hank Locklin, J.P. "Big Bopper"
Richardson, and the list goes on to include many whose first or only
published songs came through "Pappy" Daily or the Glad Music

Pappy Daily left the railroads for nickelodeons... "I
was an accountant 14 years in the tax department at Southern Pacific",
Pappy, ... recalls "I had less seniority than anyone else
there, so with the Depression going on in 1931, I knew I'd better look
around" ... Pappy's
most notable stars were the Big Bopper, George Jones, Jimmie Dean, Eddie Noack, Roger Miller and Hank Locklin.
